Awarding both hospitality operators and their designers for design excellence, the Awards will culminate in a grand and innovative ceremony in London at the RIBA, 66 Portland Place on the 6th September 2012.

This year the Awards have attracted over 600 entries from the UK and 60 other countries. Entries have come from all types of hospitality and architectural environments including hotels, transport, business, industry, fine dining, education, leisure, healthcare, government and retail.

Judges come from many different design sectors and include Alberto Alessi (Owner, Alessi), Stephen Booy (Chief Architect, Carnival Shipbuilding), Joe Ferry (Senior Design VP, IHG), Lee Hallman (Head of Design, Candy & Candy), Matt Turner (Editor, Sleeper), Jay Hunt (CCO, Channel 4), William Russell (Partner, Pentagram) and many more.

The Oast House, based on an original Kentish design and built from naturally distressed reclaimed materials, radiates charm and warmth whilst making a strong statement about sustainability and recycling.

“I needed some really strong alfresco kit for our recently completed project The Oast House, which opened in October as the first pub in Living Ventures’ portfolio. I was looking for an innovative and resourceful company to dress the outside and approached Breezefree, as they are regarded highly in the hospitality sector. Bambusa, a genus of the Bamboo family, is amongst the world’s fastest growing plants.  Harvested annually on managed plantations and achieving complete sustainably in approximately four years, Bambusa has superior sustainability when compared to traditional tropical hardwoods that can take decades longer to mature.

Following strong performance during the winter in some ferocious weather, Living Ventures have ordered a further 15 Bambusa parasols.

Breezefree recently designed, manufactured and installed an outdoor shelter with a glass roof as part of the refurbishment of McDonalds’ Shadwell restaurant and drive-through.

This bespoke glass structure was designed and built from scratch specifically for this site, with all metalwork being powder-coated to match the proposed colour of the building. The bespoke roof provides shelter from the rain for patrons ordering food and the seating area nearby.

Breezefree also installed two French-style sunshades on the side of the building. These fixed wedge awnings are finished with a fabric chosen to match the building and are branded with the famous ‘Golden Arches.’

We recently completed the installation of a brand new outdoor rigid screen system, designed from the ground up by Breezefree to complement Chiquito’s new look. These alfresco terrace screens are composed of galvanised steel posts supporting either glass or slatted wooden panels, both of which can be branded.

The wooden barriers at Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, work perfectly with the terracotta-coloured parasols also installed by Breezefree, and now the restaurant’s alfresco dining area really stands out amongst its neighbouring competitors. The branding is burned into the wood to maintain that rustic feel.

The same street screen system was installed at Chiquito in Plymouth, but with branded glass panels which are in keeping with the building’s sleek exterior.

Breezefree are proud to have completed another awnings and jumbrellas installation for ASK Restaurants in Bolton. Face fixed to the restaurant shopfront at Middlebrook Retail Park, Horwich, five wedge awnings have been branded with ASK’s fantastic new designs, which invoke a scenic skyscape on vibrant lime green fabric.

Also known as French awnings or fixed blinds, these can be manufactured in a variety of shapes and sizes, and with the wide choice of printing techniques available, fixed wedge blinds can be used to increase visibility and impact, effectively promote brand awareness or simply for solar shading.

The Dynevor Arms (pronounced ‘Din-Eva”) is a traditional South Wales pub in the countryside located on a main road close to M4Jun 34 and serves a local hospital, small local businesses and surrounding villages.

“I wanted somewhere my smoking customers could shelter all year round in an environmentally friendly area.  Between 30-35% of my customers are smokers and I had imagined giant parasols with heating. Last year Punch Taverns chose to showcase various supplier’s products and we were selected as one of the trial sites. We looked at 5 artistic impressions and quotes from different suppliers for various products :- a Swiss chalet , folding-arm awnings, outdoor patio parasols, a bus shelter and a wooden Pergola Awning.  Because of the style of the property we wanted something that was not fixed to the building and preferably portable. We thought that Breezefree’s proposal looked best value for money and the strongest, so we invited them to meet us.

Breezefree pointed out that the location was a SW facing sun trap, asked questions about wind, drainage, covered accessway, intended use etc. They explained everything in detail and gave good advise including all running costs. The final quote was approved and the ВЈ14k package (rentalised over 3 years) was for a free-standing, made to measure awning with a timber pergola frame, Solamagic heaters, furniture and included ground works and electrics. We put the drawings on the wall for our customers to see and I was particularly delighted with the outcome. This was better than we had all expected. Their drawings were spot on and represented exactly what we expected.

When the local enforcement officer from the County Borough Council came to inspect, he “signed-off” our patio awning as completely compliant. The awning’s standalone pergola frame fits in perfectly with the rest of the beer garden and looks as though it’s always been there. I can operate the motorised awning and the heaters without having to leave the bar. It was professionally installed by Rick and his cracking team who were courteous, considerate and efficient. They took the drainage to the soakaway and when it’s throwing it down, there’s no splashing. It’s high quality job, by one of the best companies I’ve known. Since installation turnover has gone up tremendously.

Smokers used to smoke in the bar and with one long bar serving both the restaurant and bar, we’ve now been able to extend the restaurant into the bar.  We used to do about 800 meals a week and we now do over 1000 with an equivalent rise in drinks (£7 average main course). With over 25% increase in business, the investment could possibly be paid-off within 9 months.  This has done us a world of good. Had I realised that the Smoking Ban would have been so successful, I would have done this 10 years ago. The neighbouring pubs are suffering because there is no protection for their smokers, only small garden parasols and gas heaters, which are seen as ineffective and this has led to an increase in custom for us. I’ve just referred one neighbour to Breezefree for their pub garden awning.

I’m very pleased with the electric heaters, they give off far more heat than gas, which wastes most of the heat up in the air which is not good for the ozone layer.”
