Breezefree screens are used to provide a protective barrier, and regularly changing signage at the world-renowned Royal Observatory, Greenwich.

As one of London’s top tourist attractions, the historical Royal Observatory, Greenwich hosts thousands of visitors every year at its stunning location and vantage point within Greenwich Park. The bronze planetarium cone needed a screen system on its outside perimeter to discourage visitors from touching the structure, which occasionally becomes hot in the sun.

Breezefree supplied the 28 screens in 2010, mounted in ground-sockets rather than on baseplates, as this provided aesthetically pleasing lines and sturdy semi-permanent installation, but with the flexibility of easy removal. The screens also act as signage, with a printed design reflecting the pattern and texture of the planetarium cone. They also provide an added level of versatility, as Breezefree are able to regularly make and print replacement panels with alternative designs, giving the Observatory an effective way to promote the annual Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year Competition. During the exhibition some of the winning photos are printed onto mesh panels to replace some of the existing panels, making Breezefree’s screens an elegant, practical and multi-purpose solution.
